Tired of Fighting share new single “Castles”
Geordie emo-pop punk trio, Tired of Fighting, have dropped their new single “Castles” on via U.S.-based indie label Punkerton Records. This marks the band’s first release under the label, heralding a significant step in their journey towards a global audience.
“Castles” dives deep into the evolving nature of relationships, capturing the shift from the elation of new love to the bittersweet realities of transformation. With poignant lyrics such as “Castles, they crumble down before us now, before us now,” and “We marked this safe so we could keep it from disarray,” the song intertwines moments of vulnerability with an enduring sense of hope.
Nic Wood, the band’s lyricist and songwriter, elaborates on the emotional core of the track:
“The opening of the song is about giving yourself up to your surroundings, and letting your feelings take over you. I don't believe in God, but sometimes you experience the natural world around you, a starry night sky, or something transcendental like falling in love and you get this overwhelming feeling that you're part of something bigger than yourself, that you're connected to something much greater.
Unfortunately, those feelings of love and euphoria don't always last. The song is also about how a relationship changes over time. When romantic love changes to deep platonic care it can be a really difficult thing to navigate, but finding a way to still remain friends after a break up can be so rewarding, and it's something I'm really glad we did.”
Musically, “Castles” is a seamless blend of early 2000s emo influences with a contemporary punch. Echoes of bands like Motion City Soundtrack and Taking Back Sunday resonate within its structure, while the track’s production brings a modern energy reminiscent of Paramore and The Gaslight Anthem. The result is a raw yet melodic piece that showcases Tired of Fighting’s knack for crafting emotionally charged anthems.
Formed in 2019, Tired of Fighting began as an acoustic project with Nic Wood and bassist George Sharpe before evolving into a high-energy trio with the addition of drummer Kev Nolan. Over the years, their passionate performances and relatable storytelling have helped them build a loyal fanbase across the UK. A standout moment came with the success of their lyric video for “Hollow,” which ultimately caught the attention of Punkerton Records.
“Castles” marks an exciting new chapter for Tired of Fighting, as they prepare to reach audiences far beyond their UK roots. With their unique ability to capture universal themes of connection and resilience, the band is primed for their next steps in the global emo-pop punk scene.
